Like much of my work, this project comes out of my experience of having lived away from my family from the age of eleven. While I was living in America, I crocheted one red hat for each member of my family in the Philippines. The hats were made in different sizes and from memory so that it turned out that some were slightly too big or slightly too small. Each red hat had pom-poms with attaching strings that measure my height. I mailed the hats to my family in the Philippines and asked them to take photographs of themselves wearing the hats. The hats were exhibited together with the photographs taken by my family.
